Chelsi's Wedding Blog

I know that there is still quite some time before we have to start sending out invitations, but because of my love of scrapbooking and stationary, I’ve been keeping my eye out for invitation ideas that are creative and different.  I’ll most likely make my invitations myself, so I’ve been looking for DIY-style invitations.  This isn’t to say that I’ll rule out having them made if I find something that Paul and I love.  I’ve also saved ALL of the invitations I’ve received over the years to friends’ weddings, so I’ll be using those as inspiration as well.

So far, I have found quite a few invitation sites and businesses on eBay that print some pretty nice invitations.  I would like to keep with the bird/butterfly theme, and here are a few of my favourites at the moment.

As for DIY invitations, I’ve looked through page after page on The Knot and these are my favourites.  Some of these are programs, but I could use a similar idea when making the invitations.  There’s a variety of media being used in the invitations – felt, scrapbooking paper, stamps, even fabric – and although they would take longer to make, the personal touch would be worth it.

I really like these and the use of the cut out flowers from scrapbooking paper.  This person actually stitched around the invitation with a sewing machine for an added touch!

A cute, simple idea for the programs.  I really like the clean look of these.

Another simple, yet effective and vintage-looking program idea.

I was thinking that I could use the birds that I draw in my paintings and draw them on the front of the invitation or program, somewhat like this one.

The following are a couple of invitations and programs made using different bird stamps.  I ordered a cute retro stamp off of eBay of two ‘love birds’ that I could use for the invitations.  I’m going to stamp them on the candy bags as well.

I’m not sure if I would use this idea, but I love it – gold seals and peacock feathers!

After all of those ideas, I still have one that has remained my favourite since a friend of a friend sent out an invitation in this style.  They took a series of pictures, photobooth style, and used that on the front of the invitation.  I was thinking that we could do something similar.  I found a picture online from someone else who had the same idea:

I want to do something similar to that I think – have the photo booth strip down the centre, glue it onto card stock, frame it with those little picture corners, and instead of “Save the Date,” I was thinking of using a chalkboard to write “We’re” “Getting” “Married” in each frame.  Inside, I was thinking of using a variation of one of the ideas above, such as stamps or a template such as this one.

Those are the ideas so far.  Any favourites or suggestions?

An invitation is the first introduction to your wedding. Who wouldn’t just love receiving any one of these cute little bird invites in their mailbox? Each one seems to have its own little personality and a story to tell. Having birds incorporated into your wedding theme is just so “tweet.” If you make your own. I can just imagine how darling they’ll be!
